No More Puppy

One day he was here, and the next day gone!!
So a few weeks after Matt and I got married we decided to buy a puppy! We had talked about it for months and finally decided to do it. We had been looking at a breeder in the area, and chose to buy from her. We went to her house to inspect the puppies. We fell in love with a Wheaten Terrier who we named Clark (after Christmas Vacation).
We were like new parents- so excited to show him off to everyone! We stopped at Matt's parents on the way home, and my family came over later that afternoon to meet the little guy. We bought him the best and most expensive puppy food; chew toys, a blanket, a crate, shampoo, etc.
He seemed to love us just as much as we loved him! The first night home he didn’t eat his dinner. No big deal I thought. He just needed time to adjust to his new home. When we put him in his crate for bedtime he barked for 3 hours straight until I finally let him out and slept on the couch with him.
The following day I did some research on how to help puppies sleep. I learned that their crate should be next to your bed and have a ticking clock because it sounds like the mother's heart. So, that is exactly what I did and he slept all night! He was truly my little baby. I did everything with him and took care of him day in and day out.
A few days had passed and he was eating more than he did, but not much. I was getting concerned but thought he just needed some time. On New Year's morning I woke up to him throwing up in his crate. My initial reaction was something isn’t right. I calmed myself down and told myself he just needed to eat. Maybe he was throwing up because he was so hungry. I took him downstairs, let him out, and fed him. A minute later he was throwing up what he has just eaten. I called the vet and they told me he might just have a little bug so keep an eye on it. He continued to throw up for the next three hours! He also developed a terrible cough.
I couldn’t take it any longer so Matt and I took him to the emergency vet. We were there for 5 hours!!! Apparently, a lot of pets were having problems that day. At the end of the five hours the vet told us that our little Clarky had pneumonia and it would cost around $4,000 to hospitalize him a and get him better. The vet was very honest with us and said that we should take him back to the breeder and return him. She said puppies don’t usually get so sick and if they do that means they will usually be sick with things for the rest of their lives.
We just couldn’t afford to pay all those bills. It was an unbelievably hard decision but we brought him back to the breeder and said our goodbyes.
